Happy Holidays, everyone and welcome to our 2015 Christmas Challenge!

Composers have been writing seasonal Christmas tunes for hundreds of years, and the greats have steadfast against the test of time. But its 2015 and we think it’s high time to bring new life to some of those old classics.

For our Christmas challenge, teams will work together to transform a traditional carol from the public domain into a modern, chart-topping, thumping, pumping, popular hit, and in any style that you like!

Sounds like a challenge, right? Register now by replying in this forum by saying, “Rudolph” or “Ho Ho Ho” – or whatever ya like to let us know that you’re in. :)

Registration closes on November 15th at 11:59pm. Team pairings will be announced the following day.

Join in the fun. Sign up today!

How Things Will Work and Challenge Deadlines

Team Entries
The finished song must be published into the Music Library no later than midnight, December 23rd. We’ll be checking that you’ve met all of the challenge criteria and followed the rules before giving you the thumbs up.

Voting and Winning
The entries will be judged by Santa’s elves, who will be an unbiased group of music lovers having no prior knowledge of the competition entries or participants, and using clear criteria to guide the voting process. We will announce the results and the winning team on December 25th.

Judgement Criteria
Challenge entries will be judged on the following three criteria using a scale ranging from 1 - 4, with a total possible overall score of 12.

Creativity – The extent to which your rendition sounds fresh, original and creative.
Theme – The extent to which your rendition suits the Christmas theme and expresses the Christmas spirit.
Hit Factor – The extent to which your rendition has been brought into the 21st Century and the chances of it being the next big, chart topping, Christmas number one!

Prizes
A ProCollabs Grammy Award and bragging rights, of course!

Some Rules
• Your project must be a "Public by Invite" project
• Your project must use the Fair Shares collaboration agreement
• Your completed project must properly credit the original work as being in the Public Domain
• Any member can enter. Moderators and the like sadly cannot.
• Your rendition must be original, 100% recorded and produced by the team members (3rd party samples and loops are allowed but must be credited, as appropriate)
• Your cover art must be original and created 100% by the team members – ensure that credit is given for the cover art when closing the project
• Only one entry per team is allowed

For this challenge, you are encouraged to recruit other members to your project. But they may not also be a contributor to another team’s project.

Come on people, sign up - this could be a crazy cool challenge if ya use your imagination. I'd love to hear a reggae version of a Christmas song. :)

If no one else signs up, team #1 will win by default, haha :)

Is there a place on the internet where you can find "public domain" songs for this contest? I'm not sure if holiday songs is my thing but maybe if I heard something cool I would be inspired. It's been a long time since I've done any collaboration
