As a member I would like to ask this.

I am a mixing and mastering engineer. In my case do I get paid for any for the mixes and mastering job that I am doing at the end of the day ??

Best

Hey Ilias, what a great question :)

The answer is.. its entirely up to you. However, at this stage on the site (its early days), the answer is probably gonna be no. That's the short answer, if you care to read on, I'll explain a little bit more.

When a member starts a project, they will need to consider the intended outcome. In some cases, they may want to have complete freedom over the final product. For example, they want to go off and license it for a tv commercial, and in doing that, do not want to share in any fee, royalty payment, or credit etc. On the other hand, some people are just here to create, have fun, and ultimately share in any potential profit that may follow. Different folks, with different needs.

You may have noticed on the project pages, the 'collaboration agreement' being mentioned. The collaboration agreement is chosen by the manager/director when starting the project and sets out a non-binding, informal description of how things will work between project collaborators. For example, the equalshares and fairshares agreements suggest that as a result of completing the project, everyone involved will have a share in the copyright (ownership). On the other hand, the WorkForHire agreement will typically indicate that the project director wants to 'own' the product (copyrights) of the completed song, and essentially, intends to pay members for their contributions, i.e. as a work-for-hire.

As you can see on the site currently, most projects are either equalshares or fairshares. Though, nothing is set in stone. Which means, if you offer your services to a project and agree on an alternative outcome, such as payment, then so it will be. In other words, you are free to offer your services and negotiate any other agreement, arrangement, or payment, as you like. This is something that will take place between yourself, the project director/owner and the other collaborators.

However, there is currently no feature to manage this on the site. So any arrangements that you make will need to be implemented outside of the ProCollabs domain (e.g. a PayPal payment, etc.). In future, we hope to be able to facilitate these types of arrangements within ProCollabs, but that is not currently the case.

If you do intend to provide mixing or mastering services on the site on a work-for-hire basis, you would probably want to make that clear on your profile page and whenever you offer to work on a project.

In the meantime, you might want to consider that in collaborating on an equalshares/fairshares/etc project, i.e. by providing the mix, you will be rewarded with a share in songs copyright and will have the same non-exclusive rights, for example, as the song's writers and performers. So nobody here is actually contributing for free, whether writing lyrics or playing the guitar, just that the format of payment can be different. And who knows whether you just mixed the sound track to the next box office # 1 :)

Hope this helps to answer your question.
