Hi There,

My name is Kyle, or as I'm better known on YouTube: Mr.SmashKAB. I am an Acoustic drummer with a full studio setup, ready to record. Recently I've been picking up collaboration projects from any sources that I can find them However, I am transitioning into paid projects only.

I'd like to know if there is a better way to showcase my skills in my profile. For example, I've done a cover of a FF song that turned out really well that I would put up to showcase my current level of skill/drum sound. https://youtu.be/tKQqV-Ohy5s

I've been lurking around this site for about 9-10 months now but, nothing has really popped out at me as something I can do. I realize that I may have to take a more active role in searching for projects but, there doesn't seem to be a filter for paid projects only. I've seen a few that I might work well on by searching drums.

I will likely try to do at least one project here, free if necessary, just to see if I like the process here. But I guess my question is, How do I make myself more visible?

I don't normally have a lot of time to search for projects or hang out in forums and chat, it would be nice if I could be approached by prospective project leaders and get picked up for songs that I would be a good fit for.

Any advice you have for me would be appreciated.

Thank you,
-Kyle

Hi Kyle

Great to have you here. As far as paid projects go, most collaborators here are looking for joint ownership collaborations. There are very few paid gigs currently. When there is a paid gig, it will show up in the lounge area at the top under "Work for Hire". If you check now, there is only one currently open..!

That said, things come up every now and again, and when a new project is started that is looking for drums, you should get an email notification. In the email, you can see if the project is "work for hire" or not. Also, if you check the open projects, you can tell from the dollar sign. You are correct, there is no search for that currently, but that's basically down to the lack of projects looking, but will be added later if things pick up.

As for getting more visible, I think the best answer to that is "activity". When someone is looking for a drummer, they will either know someone, or go to the "search artist" page. On that page, the most active drummers on the site will generally be at the top of the list. The activity meter on your profile shows that, so I if that is lit-up, then people are more likely to contact you. You basically just need to sign in regularly to keep the activity meter glowing.

Also, as you mentioned, getting involved with projects, even for free initially. That way, people obviously get to hear your skills and see your name/icon. I think the best thing you can do to raise your profile is to be active with comments and participation in projects. But I know that is time-consuming.

The other thing I could suggest is to be proactive. A lot of projects want "acoustic" drums, so if you see a project you like, but it is not asking looking for work-for-hire, you might still want to approach the PM and just ask them. You never know.

Hope that helps! Hope to hear you around!
Lee

Yes, I have gotten those email notifications! They generally prompt me to take a look around again. So, activity is just based on sign in. Not posting or completed collaboration?

That's right. Just being around. It doesn't consider project participation etc.

I think I can manage that. Okay, one more question: is there a way to showcase collabs I've done outside of this site? (Like the one on YouTube I linked to before)

Not directly. You have links from your profile that you can setup (think there is a youtube one), and you can make references in your bio, but the main songs that showcase on your profile either need to be in your own media library or published in the store -
another good reasons to get a few collaborations happening :)

Awesome, thanks so much for your time. I'll see what I can do about getting on a project after work today. :)
