My membership runs out in January, & I am trying to decide what kind of membership I want for next year. I am also trying to figure out what to do with my current projects should I decide to go with the most basic membership. So....
1) If I have basic membership, but I have a ton of projects up, do I have to take all those projects down?
A) I have a project that is part WFH, part joint. I want to be able to pay my WFH & keep the files contributed by my collaborators. So how do I do both? If I complete the project, my archives get deleted right? Would it be wrong to first download the files from my collaborators with the hopes that I might restart the project at a later time, or even transfer it to someone else who might have a better membership?
I know there's a B) in there somewhere, but I think I need A) answered first.

Hi Shannon. Sorry for the delay. I will try to answer your questions if I can :)

1) "If I have basic membership, but I have a ton of projects up, do I have to take all those projects down?"

No, you don't. If you downgrade your account from Silver to Basic, it just means that your consecutive project limit will be reduced and if you have more projects currently open than your membership quota you just won't be able to start new ones until you have completed your existing projects.

A) "I have a project that is part WFH, part joint. I want to be able to pay my WFH & keep the files contributed by my collaborators. So how do I do both? If I complete the project, my archives get deleted right?"

You can use both work-for-hire and joint collaboration agreements in any project, regardless your membership type. With wfh, your collaborators upload the files as usual, and once you complete the payment to them, you are free to keep the files of course. Files are only archived once a project is complete, and you must also ensure that you have selected all of the files as being "production ready" files when you close the project (you can see the list of included files when you close the project). Those files are then archived; however, note that archived files for completed projects are only available to members who have "Project Archive" access - which is available to Platinum members,
or can be purchased as a membership add-on separately. Regardless, I would highly recommend that you always download and archive any files locally yourself. FYI, you can access the project archive files from the completed project's Datasheet page.

"Would it be wrong to first download the files from my collaborators with the hopes that I might restart the project at a later time, or even transfer it to someone else who might have a better membership?"

Only 'wrong' if they are not your files and/or not being used in a current project. If you own them (e.g. result of paid work-for-hire) then absolutely, keep your own local backup. On the other hand, if you delete an unfinished project, any files that were contributed by others in a 'joint-work' should be deleted. If you restart the project at a later time, then your collaborators should re-upload them themselves. Alternatively, as you have suggested, it is possible to transfer the ownership of a project to another member and keep it open in that way.

BTW, Shannon. Your current membership does not "run-out" in January. That was the date that you first joined. Your Silver membership lasts for a whole year, so you still have some months to go. You can see your membership plan details on your membership 'account' page.

Hope that helps..
