Well then never mind. Though folks have been recording loud high pitched female vocalists with LDCs for years. Perhaps it could be the fast track not being up to snuff. I suppose try the 58 see if it matches up, they're good mics to have around anyway and they're under $100

That is what I do, I turn it down & move closer. Edit: The difficult part about doing that is being in the middle of a song and trying to adjust the mic settings because there is a high note coming up in the song - then turning it back up when the lows parts are coming back. It throws me off.

The fast track has a pad button. you could just hit that while you are singing.

I was thinking about that too. I have had this M-Audio for ages, so I might look into something more modern.

I use that, but I noticed that it makes my vocals very very low. Perhaps there are settings for that as well, I'll have to look.

Yeah I read that they are terrific & well worth the money. Andrew suggested a Samson Q7, so I'm going to look into those as well.

If you attach an empty tin can to the end of a piece of string, you have a great set up for recording rock vocals IMHO. Just be sure to pull it tight.

I guess the problem for vocalists and mics is, you won't really know until you get to put the two together. That said, I don't think you can go too far wrong by adding a Shure SM57 (or 58) to your collection.

And don't go forgetting to add one new mic to your Santa list every year :)

I can't wait tell Ann this:)

Ann and I were playing and singing with a friend the other day and we trialled the Shure beta 58's against the Samson Q7 and both Ann and I felt the Samson's were better suited to the job. They were warmer and the high end less piercing, now I know this is not recording but the one thing that a vocalist who sings rock needs, is confidence. The thing we noticed was that the fidelity of the Samson was much less which lent it to the job we were doing, loud guitar, bass and drums. From my own experience the more I punch my voice and the grittier I get, the more I look for a dynamic. The condenser still gets used far more but for jobs like these I will always use a 58 style mic.

I liked the ND767A too but here's the rub, you can't tell which one will suit till you use it, you'll know as soon as you use it for you will sing with confidence. BTW room noise is no issue with a dynamic but it will still be prone to plosives.
