ilock :(
Slate has really interesting plugs, but unfortunately, I've seen too many horror stories with ilock users...
However, on the REALLY free side of things, here is what used to be my go-to "make it sound better" plug. IMHO, it's the best exciter out there unless you pay good money

the thrillseeker XTC, blue and black version (depending on how loud you mix).. I just love that plug.. careful to not over-use it ;)
Variety of sounds is one of the best free plugins maker out there.. I still use quite a few of his plugs, even if I have paid for equivalents..

As a professional mixing and mastering engineer, I use Slate in all my mixes. They are reliable and they sound awesome :)

I use very little plugins, I mix with Harrison Mixbus and don't need a lot of the plug, and get quite good mixes anyway :-)

Wow, I went to the site and looked around a bit. I can't believe that waves are soooo bloody expensive! I mean, I saw a wave bundle for $12150, another for $8,000.
I guess it makes sense to buy them when there is a sale. The price to be a musician these days, geez. :/
