Account verification is the process by which ProCollabs members credentials and claims are checked and a user's identity is authenticated. The "Verified Account" status assigned to user accounts provides a visible indication to other users of the site that the member has been verified by ProCollabs through this process.
Our members post original ideas, music, recordings, copyrighted material and much more in order to be able to share openly and to collaborate effectively with others on the site. Collaborating online is about trust, and that's a hard thing for most when you don't actually know if the person your talking to even exists! We believe that our members deserve an environment in which they can have at least a reasonable amount of confidence that the site is not haunted by unscrupulous and unknown person's having ill-intent, such as music thieves and pirates, trolls, spammers, anonymous users having multiple accounts, etc., and hence why we check every single member.
No. Given the nature of the internet, it is impossible to be able to guarantee that the bad guys won't get through the door. Whenever you post or upload to an internet website, no matter how secure, you are taking a risk. With our verification process, we aim to help minimize the risk to you and your material, but we can't eliminate it entirely.
Our verification process is undertaken in two steps: 1) screening of a user's profile by a member of staff, and 2) authentication of a user by means of completing a financial transaction through our secure payment gateway, PayPal.com.
The first step involves researching and checking that the person appears to be a real person and has a genuine interest in joining a music site such as ProCollabs. By passing this check, members are given access to the site and are free to start projects, upload auditions, and generally interact. However, downloading of files from another member's project, for example, is restricted.
By completing the second step, which links a member to a reputable financial institute with its own controls in place to ensure legitimacy and user authentication, a member is then allocated the 'Account Verified' status and given unrestricted access to the site.
Currently, step one (screening) is carried out when the user applies for membership. We endeavor to complete this step within 24 hours, but it is normally completed much sooner.
Step two is automatically completed whenever a member purchases any premium membership plan or a paid add-on. Once the transaction has been completed, the 'Account Verified' status will be displayed on the member's profile page.
For premium members, the verification process was completed as soon as you made payment for your membership plan through the site.
For Basic members, only the screening step is completed upon joining the site. Full verification cannot be completed until a payment has been made. However, this does not prevent Basic members from using the site and most features will still be available. Notably, however, Basic members are not able to download files from another member's project.
For Basic members who do want full access, but do not want to upgrade or to purchase any add-on item, the special product #510 "Account Verification" has been created as an option. By purchasing the "Account Verification" product for $1, a transaction is completed through our secure payment gateway and the member's account will then become verified.
