No politics. No religion. It's all about the music, people! So keep it clean, polite, and be sure to read our Community Guidelines before posting in the forum.

Hello,
I am a new member named Tomic. If you see my profile pic or read my profile, you will see that I have many years experience in various areas of music, with way too much gear. The topic mentions synchronization. Basically the real question should be, "Do you know what SPIDF is or how to synchronize your projects with word clock or AES/EBU timecode"?

I am talking about all the extra connections and options offered on your interfaced or soundcards. I usually help people understand how to take full advantage of, "The Big BreaK". Mainly if one of your songs gets picked to go into a fully professional commercial studio. I deal with making sure that when you bring your project in, it will be set-up to work under the generally accepted pro systems that are in use in these type of studios.

I have found with many friends that their "home" set-up works great by itself. But when they try to exchange the project with someone who's "Home" studio that has it's own set-up or when they take it to a pro studio, problems can often arise because of the difference not the the quality of gear or programs but that amount of choices that are available in a pro studio that most of us can't afford.
Again, in other words, how to make sure that your project can speak to their gear correctly. Will your sync tone or session start time be recognized by another studio? How can we make sure that your project will send communication so as to work with a pro mixing board (digital or analog ), a 24 or 48 track analog tape set-up and transfer the right timing information so that wether you press play on the computer or the board or another type of gear or program, that everything will play back in-time at the same time everytime?
After years of working in all types of situations at many levels, I have come across these problems more often then I like to remember.

I'm not saying I'm a genious, nor am I taking for granted the intelligence of this community or it's talent.
I'm just offering to help if it's needed. If not you can call me any bad name you can think of and move on. I offer this for free and with the intention of mentoring or teaching anyone who is interested in what these type of terms and instances mean.

Again as stated I am new to this community and wish only to help any that may need it.

I look forward to working with you all in any way you think I can help.
Mixing is my main attribute with many years experience. All that means is that I have probably been turned down more times than many on this site. I have also submitted many mixes that have been accepted. You just never know what will work for everyone.

Thatnk you for your time,
Tomic

Oh boy, are you really giving us permission to call you a bad name? Good thing we're not all from NY! ;)

Kidding of course. Thank you so very much for offering your services to the community, it really means a lot. Information like this can be so beneficial, especially for those who want to take their music a step further. Preparation is key, so your help/advice will be very appreciated.

Thank you again! :)

RAVEN,

As I have said time and again, I have been very fortunate and blessed with oportunities that other people in the field never had. True, I have worked many, many hours and sometimes many days in a row without sleep just to gain the experience and reach the goals I have set for myself. But just because it hasn't been easy doesn't mean it hasn't been fun, thrilling and filled with rewards for working hard. My rewards were many and the people I have worked have been very good, patient and kind by letting me in on some trade secrets ( There really are none) but mostly taking the time to help understand and give me the chances to experiment. That is a rare thing in this industry. This is why I must give back, to honor those who have helped me and have given much more than money for a session.

They are people like you RAVEN, whom I also consider a blessing (in disguie : - ) . And I have been gifted with the oportunity to work with on many projects in the past on and off for many years.

As I see what you are doing and giving of yourself here, I know just for the mutual respect we have that if I don't give as much as I can, it would be a disservice to our shared love of music and respect for the crafts.
I have only been a member less then a week and people like Roo and GoodVibes have welcomed me into the fold.
I look forward to working with you again RAVEN and with anyone who thinks I'm just quirky enough to do it justice.

Hey Tom,
This is a very helpful thing for you to do, to share your passion is what we should all be about, some may not get that but for those that do it is worth it.
Sometimes when you work a certain way at home and it works for you it is a slow evolution to change and that change can come about easier if the person offering it can light the way gently, which you already seem to have done. I began this on line journey some 5 years back and since then those who have known me through this time have seen me adapt to more accepted practices. Up until this year I always recorded to 16 bit, it worked for me but some time back a friend explained to me in a common sense way what advantages there were in utilising 24 bit. Now that I have hardware that takes advantage of this I enjoy the change and it has altered my mixing point of view, for those that would try to get me to change before they were probably frustrated but what they didn't think of was I just wanted to come home and play not relearn what I had got to work for me, even if it was wrong to them. That's the key for me, I needed to give myself time to re experiment, to try new ways of doing this and that's what I have been doing for most of this year.

Thanks for your offer Tom, it will be much needed I think.

Ahh, Mr GoodVibes,

Thank you for your understaning.

I very much am looking forward to a project we can collab on. I have the time available because I'm at that point where doing things that make me feel good are more important then chasing the money. Of course all those years of chasing the money has given me the oportunity to pick and choose. But what's good for the soul is good for the body. And that's what keeps me going after a very interesting and long life.
If you can think of anything in particular, let me know.
Right now I am dancing with Roo's "When Love is Real", such a great song, lyrics and melody. Then I owe my good friend RAVEN that mix "Whoa" which I intend to take my time with and get it very interesting and carry thru the lite but tasty touches I think both you and she have added.

Thanks

And here is a link that I hope will work for members who are not on the subscription list.
As you all know I am constantly on the lookout for different maybe better ways to get the best results for troubles.
This is a link from "Mix magazine" showing how to be great for a mere $35,000.00. (this is a good time to faint).

http://www.mixonline.com/news/technology/box-35000-bucks/426694

Let me know if there is any problem with the link.
I have another link that contains the separated tracks up to 50 and beyond. This is a free mixing forum where you can get excellent feed back on what you have done. I am a site member and it has allowed me to mix all types of genres. This is great for producers to see different song structures. It is also a place to get very professionaly recorded tracks for mixers to try their hand at. It is a wealth of information offering many how to books and even shows some work-arounds. Try it you like it.

Stay tuned more and more on the way. : -
