Hello! I am an in-house attorney during the day. I've lived in Seattle for close to 20 years.
I have been dabbling off and on with songwriting (melodies, chord progressions, and lyrics) for close to a decade. However, I have virtually zero experience in collaboration and final arrangements and editing of songs. That's why I'm joining this community!
I would like to find a collaborator(s) with whom I can bounce ideas off of and translate those musical ideas into melodic songs that can be brought to the attention of other musicians to record, arrange, and produce, with the collaborators' input and review (including potentially, some musical flourishes). I hope that whoever is eager to collaborate with me will bring a fine attention to detail and a lot of patience as I ramp up my learning curve. I believe my strengths at this point are lyric writing and creating unique and catchy chord progressions, but there is a lot to improve upon.
My tastes in music are quite eclectic (in no particular order and not exhaustive): 60s pop/rock (fan of Beatles, Beach Boys, Bacharach, others), some 70s pop (such as ABBA), Motown/R&B, alternative/indie Rock, 80s/90s Rock (early U2, REM, Smiths, Talking Heads, Clash, Joy Division), Western Swing, Jazz (especially Big Band/swing, and some Bop), Latin Jazz, Bossa Nova, romantic Classical (Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, Chopin, etc.). I enjoy listening to musical innovators - those who combine genres and influences to push musical boundaries forward. While I believe a good beat is important (and I love creative drumming), I am extremely melody driven, and I appreciate unique chordal and melodic/harmonic progressions.
If anyone is out there who has somewhat similar tastes in music and approaches to music creation, please contact me! If you are an amateur as I am, great! If you have more experience and are willing to be patient with a relative newbie, great as well!
I have a Yamaha digital piano, an upright piano, a Strat, a 12-string Rickenbacker, and a Taylor acoustic guitar. I have amps for both electric and acoustic guitars. I also have a Blue Yeti microphone and have Logic Pro on my laptop (although using digital technology is not my strength).
