Twilight's Menagerie
Three knights ride gallantly
To retrieve a witch's skull
Searching through shades of mist
They assume she cannot control
Deceived by shadows
Each one presumes the fight is fair
Before the proudest one
Swiftly plummets into thin air
Once you hear faint laughter
Darkness has already devoured you
Cursed forever after
Frozen like a statue
Meanwhile our bravest knight
Rashly throws his gauntlet down
While charging ghastly shapes
Over chasms of shifting ground
Hacking through emptiness
In the haze of a gloomy realm
Until sharp tree branches
Pierce the eyes of his polished helm
Once you hear faint laughter
Darkness has already devoured you
Cursed forever after
Frozen like a statue
In twilight's menagerie
With all the other senseless fools
Outside the boggy tree line
Death pulls back her hood
To curate gnarled figures
With limbs of petrified wood
At last the pious knight
Who believes their cause is just
Clings to holy relics
As a shield against his own lust
And cries in vain
To drive immoral spirits away
Just as he feels the tear
Of worn flesh begin to fray
Once you hear faint laughter
Darkness has already devoured you
Cursed forever after
Frozen like a statue
In twilight's menagerie
With all the other senseless fools
